Community Navigator

The Colorado Ethiopian Community seeks a Community Resource Navigator to provide COVID education and outreach in the metro area. This is a contract, hourly position that offers up to 20 hours per week through October 2023.

 Must be bilingual ( English/Amharic/Oromiffa/Tigrigna & other Ethiopian languages considered.


 

POSITION TITLE:                                   Community Navigator

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:               Program Coordinator

STATUS:                                                  Contractual   $25/hour  - 20 hours per week          

Flexible Schedule

POSITION OBJECTIVE:  Performs direct community outreach including office hours to expand prevention, implement community-based mitigation events, educate and distribute culturally-appropriate and tailored information. 

Provides in-person outreach and education at community events, 1:1 meetings or social gatherings regarding community experiences with COVID using surveys and interviews. Top candidates will have the maturity to manage confidential and/or sensitive information and understand the importance of data collection.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience in the health or public health field is preferred.

  2. Requires reliable consistent transportation, current driver’s license and insurance.

  3. Ability to exercise initiative and judgment and make decisions within the scope of assigned responsibilities.

  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills–Ability to effectively communicate public health information in English/Amharic/Oromiffa/Tigrigna & other Ethiopian languages.

  5. Ability to effectively interview community members and collect data.

  6. Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite/ GOOGLE Apps and Social media) required.

  7. Colorado Bureau of Investigations background check.

  8. Must be legally eligible for employment in the U.S.

 

 POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Identify opportunities and perform table events for outreach: Attend community events, religious services, or other social events to give out COVID testing kits, sanitizer and masks to the community. Hand out translated fliers, answer questions and engage in conversation with the community about the ongoing risk of COVID infection. 

  2. Stay up to date on COVID-related news, including CDC and CDPHE updates. 

  3. Educate the community about DDPHE and CDPHE and their responsibility in the community.

  4. Share COVID related materials on social media, text messaging and other forms of communication.

  5. Develop translated messaging for Social media outreach as necessary.

  6. Document all communications, conversations and topics of interest shared with you by community members.

  7. Report all required data for the project on a weekly basis.

  8. Maintain ongoing, weekly communication with Project coordinators,

  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
